ARTWORK STATEMENT:
A work about relationships with time and the effects of the sun and natural forces. A repetitive, converging pattern was sewn into the fabric and then placed on a rooftop in Pacifica California and left there for 6 months. The start of the 6 month exposure process began on Sunday October 13th, 2019- the harvest moon, and was completed/harvested March 9th, 2020- a supermoon. Upon harvest, the fabric was washed, thread removed, stretched, sewn and painted into.
Artist Bio:
Chris Duncan is an Oakland, California-based artist who employs time, repetition, and accumulation as a basis for experiments in visual and sound-based media. An overriding theme in current works is the use of natural forces, such as the sun, the moon, and the ocean as conceptual and compositional prompts for both visual and sonic efforts. Duncan is represented by Rebecca Camacho presents (San Francisco), Halsey Mckay (New York), and V1 Gallery (Copenhagen).
