Erica Deeman
Self Portrait #2, 2020 (during COVID 19 quarantine)

ARTWORK STATEMENT:
I created this piece as part of a wider body of work during the COVID 19 quarantine. The image was made in the back bedroom of my home in San Francisco, a place I rarely spent much time in. It provided me with a quiet place for meditation and reflection. There is something tangible that I craved during this time of grief, loss, and fear. I found strength in being able to hold and see myself. Five images from this body of work were shared in the New York Times Sunday, June 21, 2020, “Sources of Self Regard” with the accompanying essay “Looking Inward, Looking Outward” by Deborah Willis.
