Culture Forward FAQs

Guiding Principle when questioning eligibility:

Our grant guidelines and application process are designed to be straightforward and flexible, allowing artists and culture workers the freedom to dream big and explore creative ideas for revitalizing DTSF without rigid expectations. If you don’t find explicit reasons for ineligibility in our Grant Guidelines, it’s likely that you're eligible. When in doubt, we encourage you to apply !

What is a fiscal sponsor? And how do I get one?

Here is a national directory and resource on fiscal sponsors. A fiscal sponsor is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that manages funds on behalf of a project or collective that does not have its own 501(c)(3) status. Additionally, we require fiscal sponsors to be classified as a public charity.

My project is in proximity to the listed neighborhoods but not inside them, is it eligible for this grant?

Yes, the neighborhoods are listed in an "e.g." format as to not be restrictive, although those are the neighborhoods that will be prioritized. We encourage strong proposals to apply even though they may be marginally outside the prioritized neighborhoods.

Are existing projects eligible to apply?

Yes, existing projects that meet the guidelines are eligible to apply.

If our organization is acting as a fiscal sponsor to a project, can we also apply for a Culture Grant ourselves?

Yes, an organization can serve as a fiscal sponsor for multiple projects and also apply for a Culture Grant with its own project within the same 3-month period.
