ARTWORK STATEMENT:
This work is inspired by classic Chinese genre paintings. It explores different boat formations and plays with the depth of field between western traditional and eastern traditional painting genres. At the same time it explores the minimalist forms of contemporary and modern art, utilizing the industrial object of glass panels. Translucency and reflection place the viewer’s image within the picture plane while distorting the expectations on where the work ends. The shadow play becomes a visual complication and transforms the viewing of the 2-d piece into 3 dimensions.
